I have been telling you that you were there
a lot longer than you think. I remember you
having a girl friend, Loraine N. She wore
her hair in a Pixie??
She was rather cute too as I remember, she was your age, and like you she ran away often, lol.
If you were in Mr. Higgins class at school, than you were in Junior high

Ronl you already all over this...so I will
quit looking. Just thought I might come up
with something. Lots of nay sayers out there
about the "Hippy Tree". The door to Hell?
Thought that was on the inside.
Would you both attend if you were invited to the 'picnic?'

okie, there are other ways of finding things about TCSH.
The other night I highlighted the words " Michigan State Hospital Records" from a sentence on someons comment and then right click and click "yahoo seach" I found 157 pages of records of all the state hospitals including TCSH dating back to 1898.

Believe it or not, but I have 7 sisters and 5 Brothers. I'm next to the oldest, most of them weren't around when I was in there, Most of them are "half and step" I have 1 full brother and 1 full sister. They were around and they came with my mother to visit. Like I mentioned before, once I was released it was never brought up again.
Still to this day, no oen in my family knows what went on there.
I did send one sister(Tammy) who just rescently I sent her a link to this site. But only because she's been a nurse most of her adult years
Our real Mother died in 1970. We didn't know our Farther a the time. He was re-married and had 7 more kids, Tammy was the oldest of the 7.
We went down to Texas to meet them.
Now I may build up enough courage to send my Older Brother in Ohio an email asking if he remember the length of time I was there.
Mike that is amazing. Still to this day your
family doesn't mention your time there. You
had no mental illness. Your an
epileptic...besides that there is no shame
in seeking help for mental illness. I just
don't undertand, I am so open.
NORTHERN
MICHIGAN ASYLUM, TRAVERSE CITY.
JAMES M. MUNSON, M. D., MEDICAL SUPERINTENDENT.
(1,009 patients, June 3O, 1898.)
The population of this institution at the close of the present biennial period shows no increase over that of two years ago. Still the number cared for is beyond the normal capacity of the asylum, and additional room is needed. The further enlargement of the asylum as an "asylum" is not favored, but rather the construction of hospitals for the acutely insane of each sex, in order to make the institution in the fullest sense a hospital for the treatment and cure of the insane.
Each succeeding period brings important advances in the knowledge of psychiatry and in the methods of clinical examination and treatment of the insane. Clinical examinations now include bacteriology and psychical examinations, which, until recently, were quite unknown. In order to keep pace with and share in this scientific movement in behalf of the insane, the boards of the several asylums and the Regents of the University have established a pathological laboratory at the university, and a pathologist has been employed to take charge of and direct the pathological work of the asylums. During the brief time this department has oeen in operation very satisfactory results have been obtained.
Occupation of patients continues to be an important factor in their treatment, but as the clearing of the farm is nearly finished, new industries will need to be introduced to avoid enforced idleness.
On June 30, 1898, there were in this asylum 552 men and 457 women, a total of 1,009 patients. The total number of patients under treatment during the period was 701 men and 618 women, a total of 1,319. This shows a decrease of four patients since June 30, 1896. On June 30, 1898, there were about 30 patients awaiting admission to the hospital

After looking at the Map, Kids creek was
rerouted, it use to run where building 46 is
now. I was there when the Head people placed
their gold shovels into the dirt for the
photo shoot. I would be in that picture
somewhere. It was where our garden always
was. We were unhappy losing our garden, we
use to eat what we grew like watermelon.
I also marked the Hippy Tree location on the map.
