Mike I think you sit down and tell your
story, maybe here or at hall-18.com.
I found peace in doing so.
You may use any memory I have generated for you, as my memories are the same as your memories.
I have been at it for just about 1 year and I still am at it, but without the tears anymore. I am not afraide to stand up and say I was there.
Last week I read everything that was written and noticed you said a lot too.

It's so interesting to hear your story told
in your words! Not only to read it but to
hear your voice telling your story!
Absolutely amazing! My sister and I look
everyday for more audio
I've re-read the pages over the past couple
days. Here's some random stuff to add.
The beach on Long Lake is still there with the small store across North Long Lake Road.
I was in TC last week. The Arcade is now Front Street Commons. Good News Music Center now takes up the entire basement. They still have lots of guitars.
I found this with a google search:
The Owosso Argus-Press, Friday October 9, 1970.
A MEDICAL EXAMINER’S jury ruled Thursday that 26-year old John Cronk died of natural causes at Traverse City State Hospital in August and while it found there was negligence in the death, the jury ruled there was no cause for criminal action.
Press on....

Another place was at th far end of town (main St) before the highway meets up with it.
There was a house of flavors ice creem place, inside it had a juke box, thats where I heard "we gotta get out of this place" by the animals for the first time. I use to love going there and for a quarter you could get a double scoop and they had wonderful flavors like Batman, Bubble Gum, they had 21 flavors as I remember.

The Snake
Pit:
Tonight I seen a movie made in 1949 "The Snake Pit"
About a woman who is in an insane asylum.
I noticed many things that was the same.
The clothing they wore was very similar
The general population was spot on, just as I recall.
Near the end they were all in a big dance hall with a patient band, and it was the same band that was at TCSH, lol, and men sat on one side and the women sat on the other side. I cannot believe how perfect this was portrayed.
Aw the angry staff.

I just found a bible in my suit case that
was given to me for Chistmas.
My names on the cover and inside it's dated,
Christmas "1966". From My Grandmother. (they owned Caberfea ski lodge at that time)
I guess I'll start going to church again.

Ron, Mike, Im headed to the TCSH grounds
today after i run my brother to work. Is
there anything out there you would like me
to get a pic of? Or just look for and give
you an update? Ive been reading this forum
for a couple of days now and its added the
human element to the whole thing. I have
always been a student of history and growing
up here have been intrigued by the
buildings. My mom worked at munson med. ctr
for years and has told me many stories of
working with patients from the mens ward.
(she worked in the lab and drew blood from
many of the patients there in the 70's)
Anyhow, i just wanted to say thanks for the
stories, and if theres anything i can look
up for you dont hesitate to ask.
I was up there this afternoon. I was
wondering if anyone knew if the tunnels and
basements are connected. I was in the female
section of building 50 one day and took a
few photos down there.

The tunnels are all connected exept for some of the cottages.
Hey Guys!
I have started reading this last night and been reading it throughout the day. Currently on page 21. My Name is Brandon Nichols Im 21 years old currently living in Traverse City (Acme)
Ever since coming to TC I have always been interested in TCSH and have been searching everywhere for legit 1st hand experiences of patients and employees within the Hospital.
I haven't found any until now. Thank You very much for making this forum and sharing all your experiences.
I never knew much about the Hospital besides from urban legend and my dad telling me a story or two from visiting the Hospital in the mid 70's to preach.
I never knew about children being in TCSH and im glad I get to hear 1st hand experiences from them.
I walk on the grounds alot and peek in the windows. Could you perhaps say what it was like when walking around outside back when you were there? was it like crazy screaming all the time or just perhaps like driving past an elementary school today? playful laughter ? or was it generally quite?
"Postby ronl on Wed Aug 19, 2009 6:27 am" <---in that post you left a picture of a building...I have always wondered what that building was used for do you know?
I will continue reading the rest of this forum perhaps it will answer some of my questions if it does no need to answer them

i have now read this entire forum.
I found this blog a few months ago and have
been reading all of the posts. It's so
amazing to read all of the memories you two
can recall. I'm 20 and grew up & still live
in Cadillac so that really caught my
attention when I saw mkfarnam was from
there.. as well as reading that his
grandparents owned caberfae at one time
since I ski out there quite often. I went up
to the state hospital two years ago to the
newly renovated restaurant "Stella's" it was
very cool but had an eerie feeling in it. I
remember my mom driving us kids through
there when we were younger and telling us
its history. Keep posting, it's so
fascinating.
Hi cad217.
I was born on the corner of Pine and Lake St. I believe there's a Dentist office there now.Across from Kraft. Now there's a street that starts from Lake.St (next to Kraft) and goes around the lake, I think it's called Kenwood Dr. That street wasn't there when we lived there.
We spend most of our time on a Dairy Farm out in Selma Township.
