The screams, at night you could hear the
screams mostly from hall-6. and when ever
you walked by the cages. After a while you
did not notice the screams. On hall-18 some
who were in seclusion would scream and yell.
I guess all wards had their moments. LOL I
think if you were from someplace else you
would think hall-18 was very noisy, with 60
kids trying to have fun.
When we were in the dining room the attendants would make us keep quiet.
When you first arrived to the halls the screams bothered me until I seen first hand who was making them and why, it was like an unspoken language that I took part in and understood.

It was most heard walking by the caged
porches like Ron said. Sometime you'de hear
screams and wierd noises when a doctor was
examining someone, but we never knew what
was going on in there.

Food:
I sometimes recall the food we were served.
Cow Toungs boy were these awful.
Asparagus and I still do not eat it to this day
Shrimp, I remember we had this a few times on Fridays and once I remember we all got sick. It took 30+ years before I could eat shrimp after that.
Every Friday we had fish and fish sticks, maybe thats why I do not eat fish anymore.
I remember pork, and rancent too, this taste always stays with you, I eat pork about once a year and if it has even a hint of rancent or under cooked I stop eating it till next year.
Instant potatoes yak, first generation and I hate them to this day.
Jello and flat cake was almost daily.
rice pudding with raisins was a sometimes treat.
I recall bread pudding too and custard pudding which was my favorite.
We has hamburgs and hot dogs on our summer weekly field trips with chips.
Holidays they always had turkey or ham.
I remember goulash and this was good too.
In the mornings we always had either oatmeal or cream of wheat, once in a while we had real cereal in them little boxes.
I recall sometimes instant scrambled eggs and bacon and we always had bread and butter and toast with butter.
We always had orange juice for breakfast and milk was server with every meal. Once in a while we had choloclate milk and this is still my favorite drink today.
On hall-18 if you were old enough you could have a cup of coffee.(rummered to have salt peter in it)
